I soon realised what was causing the problem and got myself out of it. I'm not sure there is any such thing as writer's block. I've never come across it. Unless, of course, just not wanting to write is what it's about?

As you know, I'm a short story and flash fiction author, and I love calling myself that. I've been asked (and told) to write a novel, but I don't have any desire to do so. And I'm not going to force myself to do so either. I'm happy where I am and take great pride in calling myself a short story author. I wish others like me would do the same.

I do sometimes struggle with Twitter, but it's by far my favourite social media platform. I think my problem is that I need to be more social on it. I've tried, but never succeeded, yet some tweeters who ask daft questions like 'Are you afraid of chicken feet?' seem to get thousands of replies. I just don't get that.

Thanks for all the great tips, Terry. Hugh W. You covered so...Excellent and thorough blog, Terry. You covered so much that is of extreme importance.

I should no longer be shocked to read a story about an author who laid out money for a great cover but published unedited text because they didn't have money left. What in the world is the point? I understand that many people have small budgets. But really, there are a lot of quite capable cover designers who don't charge that much, and that money would be better spent on what's inside.

What's the point of getting a reader's attention only to frustrate them with sloppy, unedited text? If there is one, I'd like to know how that works.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about language as well. Sometimes, I read a book where the author prides himself/herself on never using expletives. And the lack of them for certain characters is just not believable. Like you, I put words in as I hear them, but I will then take out any that I don't believe are entirely essential. In the end, writing characters that are genuine is the most important thing I aim for as an author.

And yes, price accordingly. I've seen many authors price WAY too high because "they're worth it." Many of us are "worth it." But I still don't price e-books over $2.99. There are way too many titles that are free or .99. $2.99 is as high as I feel comfortable going. My paperback titles, however, are not all priced the same. And those prices are solely based on the length of the book and the cost of production.

For me, to authors who still insist "I'm worth it," I have to ask them: is it more important to you to have your books read or to list them at a particular price? You probably can't have it both ways.

And yes ... put a link in your tweets. It doesn't matter if it's in your bio. People will NOT search it out. You MUST make it easy for them … and definitely use a universal link.

Anyway, great blog!Lisette Brodeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00021324250266879948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-79165785107709537682020-05-17T02:53:40.329-07:002020-05-17T02:53:40.329-07:00Excellent.
