As for the 2000K words, my first drafts are very 'first draft'. But I like to publish 2 books a year, and that wouldn't happen if I didn't set myself limits like this.

Thanks for the article - I just read it. I don't have any cute, quirky or determinedly writerish rituals, I'm afraid; I just sit down and get on with it. I always make notes for the next bit each before I finish each session, and think it through before I go to sleep at night/while I'm watching telly/in the bath. Dunno if that's a ritual, really - certainly not an interesting one! Have to say I don't understand this writing in cafes thing at all - that would mean getting dressed in socially acceptable clothes and going out of the nice warm house to another place, to write??? Nah!!! Anyway, I have notes blu-tacked all over my wall, above my desk. Like, in the living room. Good thing my husband thinks me writing is more important than what our decor looks like!!!Terry Tylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15077413235902203848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-10729127701583931612019-03-11T03:05:12.286-07:002019-03-11T03:05:12.286-07:00thanks for this - it's helped me out this morn...thanks for this - it's helped me out this morning. I get this all the time, every book. It's ...Ha! I get this all the time, every book. It's part of being a writer. As you say, you just have to push on. I don't set word targets, but I DO try to write a few sentences every day. And I 'walk the plot' ...which is good for the weight as well. Calling it 'writers' block is giving it far too much importance. After all, you don't hear about 'Surgeon's block' or Teachers' Block' do you?Carol Hedgeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10359578624109905400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-55885928099560869792017-05-21T03:46:41.669-07:002017-05-21T03:46:41.669-07:00Ah, well, apathy is something entirely different, ...Ah, well, apathy is something entirely different, pet!!!!!!! One thing I also find that helps (partic when going through the confidence thing) is to read one of your books that you're particularly proud of, or that's had the best reviews. I've been feeling a bit shit lately, and the other day I read the first few chapters of The Devil You Know. It was much better than I thought it would be, and it made me realise that the 100,000 word manuscript of garbage I've spent the past 3 months writing will one day be worth reading.
