The ones I read, though, were ridiculous - in depth, as if instructing someone else, one of them was in an urgent and dangerous situation, in which you would react and DO; it was like the author chose this way of telling the reader what the character was doing - I've read a few lately that would have totally worked as inner dialogue, but didn't as an out loud conversation, at all. But yes - and thank you for reading!Terry Tylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15077413235902203848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-75612113272178462982018-09-02T03:37:41.997-07:002018-09-02T03:37:41.997-07:00Great article! My children have walked in on me talking myself more times than I'd like to admit. One time, my daughter came in while I was in the middle of a very lively conversation, involving gestures and everything. I turned to her and said, "I'm talking to myself," which is something they are both accustomed to hearing from me. She nodded and did not leave the room, so I added, "And I'd like to finish my conversation, please." She left and I went back to my animated talking and gesturing.

On a serious note, though...yes, all very important points. I try very hard to live up to all of these, and hope I'm doing a decent job of it. Thank you for sharing this. Interestingly, when I was working out times for travel by horse for my post apocalyptic series, I did my research using The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England, a book I know you have read, as well! I always look up distances between towns using the distance calculator things that you can look up so easily.Terry Tylerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15077413235902203848noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-7127738728130427292018-08-27T06:45:50.278-07:002018-08-27T06:45:50.278-07:00No 6 is one of my pet hates in historical fiction ...No 6 is one of my pet hates in historical fiction and it's usually the time it took to travel from one place to another that authors don't research. I read a book where someone riding a horse between two towns in the Midlands managed the journey in less time than it would take by car if there were a motorway between them. Another favourite is characters in the nineteenth century who breakfast in London and are in Paris by midday.

One mistake that had me reaching for scarf and gloves is when a group of friends had lunch on the lawn in January, after a game of tennis... in Lancashire.April Mundayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00147194554101708169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7513470670765405287.post-70475267231088630442018-08-27T05:14:13.629-07:002018-08-27T05:14:13.629-07:00Oh yes, tell me about it. More annoying, though, is the review that points out an error when something is actually right...!

I recently discovered that people driving around in cars a year after an apocalyptic event is not possible - apparently petrol deteriorates after 6 months and diesel after a maximum of 2 years, if stabilisers are in place. Still, if The Walking Dead and practically every post apoc novel I've read can get away with it, so can I! But when I found out, I had to do some re-writing in the current novel.
