Eleven signs that you're not just GETTING old - you've GOT THERE!

  • At last, you understand why your aged parents like watching Miss Marple and Dad's Army...

  • You go to do something like put the washing on, and discover you actually put it on about five minutes ago, though you have absolutely no recollection of doing so.

  • You fancy a cup of tea and a toasted teacake when you come back from shopping.

  • You think back fondly to the times of no internet and mobile phones, and tell people that it was much better, then.

  • Instead of leaping forward with a bright smile and your best pose, you now avoid cameras.  And mirrors.

  • You try on the sexy high heels you haven't worn for some years, and wonder why on earth you ever put yourself through it.

  • Since you last went to a wedding, you've been to at least five funerals.

  • A younger friend shows you the new 'retro' style she can do on her new camera - and it makes her photos look just like all those ones in your photo album, of you when you were her age...

(and you actually have photo albums, too...)

  • You are unaffected by pop culture, fashion and social trends as you've seen it all before, and know it's all just cyclical, anyway.

  • All the actors you fancy are at least 45...
  • You've smiled and nodded to at least half of these, and have your own to add, too!

    1. Cindy and Val ~ thanks for reading; I wrote it after eating a toasted teacake..... and remembering all the pensioners eating them in a cafe where I worked years ago!

    2. Haha, the joy of pleasures that used to be uncool! I really like the last one. I'm sure that's pretty true now. How did we manage without email?? Seems inconceivable now, doesn't it?

    3. We used to WRITE LETTERS AND PHONE PEOPLE!!! I used to always be on the phone, and in my teens was forever writing to people - I must revive it. At least you know that a letter is private, too :)

  3. I sat waiting for a saucepan of water to come to the boil today for the spaghetti...would have done it much quicker if I had actually remembered to turn the oven ring on. With a memory like mine it is a wonder I function at all...lists, lists and more lists :)

  4. Yes, very good one Terry. One thing I cannot stand nowadays is all these silly words ending with ie: selfie, bestie (best friend?) and all the others. Ridiculous, irritating and naff. Toasted teacakes sound fantastic, but you cannot beat a pecan plait from Morrisons, or even better a Danish pastry (would that be a Danie?)

    1. Oh yes, well, you know how I hate teen speak! I thought of this post as I was eating a toasted teacake for breakfast and thinking how lovely it was, then remembered how, when I worked in a cafe, all the pensioners used to have them in the afternoons!

  5. Thank God for email - faxes were such a pain in the butt! I don't even consider myself old, a mere pup at 41, but some of these were very true for me too! Good post as usual. And I'm with Val, I've never done the fashion or high heels thing. I do gawk at girls in 5 inch heels and think they will break their necks, but I've always done so!

    1. Did email come after fax? i thought they were about the same time! But then I didn't work in offices in the 80s! I remember first discovering email and thinking it was magic, ha ha! As for heels, I used to love them - not the monstrosities girls wear these days, but I had loads of sexy boots with stiletto heels, I loved them! It's one of the reasons I can't wear them now - I fractured my foot, badly, and wore my favourite black leather ones with a four inch heel too soon afterwards - now I have a bit of bone sticking out that hurts all the time. Stooooopid me!!!

  6. I agree with lots of these, but one of the best ones for me is having younger friends - some my daughter's friends, some I've met through voluntary work, etc, - when I was their age I'd have been too shy/intimidated to talk to them but now I really enjoy their company & their fresh & different take on life. We never stop learning.

Having said that, a good scone & a pot of coffee are hard to beat!

  7. Fun post, Terry. Do you ever watch TOTP2 and fancy some of the men you thought were OLD at the time?
